Trekking in Upper Dolpo region takes you to one of the most isolated valleys of Far-western region of Nepal. Situated in the north of the Dhaulagiri Range on the borders of Tibet, it is a protected area in Nepal as the Shey-Phoksundo National Park lies within its borders. This trek offers some fantastic views of many Himalayan peaks and a huge amount of flora and fauna to be enjoyed and as  well as original Bonpo sect Tibetan culture. Not to mention, the view of Kanjiroba peak, Phoksundo Lake and the Dhaulagiri massif three are the major stand out on this Upper Dolpo trek. Expeditions to Dolpo region are quite challenging, but the rewards are totally worth it- the rare vegetations, unspoiled trek routes, and the Himalayan views.

Upper Dolpo trek is known for its off-the-beaten-trail, the unspoiled routes, and the unique vegetation that remains unexplored. The major inhabitants here are the Buddhist people. For this reason, you will get to explore many ancient monuments, Gompas, and temples. Rich in cultural and also natural diversity, the trek rewards with some stunning views of the snow peaks. As well as you will get to explore some very interesting animals, as it is a place where both Himalayan blue sheep and the elusive snow leopard make their respective homes. Also, they have also contained a huge variety of wildflowers along with an extensive range of birds.

The trekking journey starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and finally reaching Jhupal. Jhupal is the beginning point of our trek. Further, we head towards north through magnificent remote countryside the, farm villages and valleys with fabulous scenery of snow-capped peaks of Dolpo and Tibetan mountain ranges. Then, we reach our adventure destination at Shey Gompa via Lake Phokshumdo or Ringmo pristine, turquoise lake within its Nepal largest Dolpo National Park.

The Dolpo region was also chosen as the prime location for the 1999 Oscar Nominated film Himalaya. It is one of the remotest and least exposed areas of northern Nepal. The trek rewards you with rare opportunities to explore many unseen parts of the region. Also known as  “The Forbidden Kingdom” in its own term, it is a perfect destination for adventure enthusiast.

Best time to visit

September and first week are the best seasons to visit Upper Dolpo when the temperature is pleasant, the skies are clear making your trekking journey joyous.

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

Our representative will Pick up from Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, and transfer to the hotel.In Hotel we introduce the guide and talk about the trek and arrange the stuff which you need while trekking.

Day 2Free day in Kathmandu

This day you can rest or do Shopping for trekking and if you want to do sightseeing than we can arrange you for the sightseeing in Swayambhunath Buddhist Monastery, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Monastery and Pashupatinath. These all tour destinations are world heritage sites designed by UNESCO world heritage. You can see typical features of different locations. After finishing the tour, you have to prepare for upcoming trekking and we will introduce the guide and do short briefing.

Day 3Flight to Nepalgunj

After having our breakfast, we take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Throughout the flight, we enjoy the spectacular views from up above. Located in the western region of Nepal, Nepalgunj is an important business area for many regions. Moreover, we can even stroll in the busy city of Nepalgunj.

Day 4Morning flight from Nepalgunj to Jhupal, and trek to Dunai

After having our breakfast, we take an early morning flight to Jhupal. The flight would be approximately 35 minutes long. Moreover, Jhupal is the starting point of our trek. Descending through local villages and terraced fields we head to the Bheri River and the trail follow the river till to Dunai.

Day 6Trek To Tarakot

After having our early morning breakfast, Traversing through a suspension bridge we turn to the east following a trail past a village. Further, the trail ascends up the side of the unwooded, Thulo Bheri valley On the way, we will be rewarded withPeak up the valley. Then, we mark our way up following the Bheri river and finally reach Tarakot.

Day 7Trek to Laine Odar

Leaving behind Tarakot we move towards Laine Odar. Today, the trail goes up and down through the pathway. Descending along the wooded river bank we go through the lofty trail on the way to Laine. The pathway leads through several streams along the way that offer a chance to cool off. Leaving the forests and the trail we pass through a grassy slope high above the river. Further, we go uphill through the dense forest followed by a rickety staircase leading to the river bank. Finally, we reach Laine Odar where we stay overnight.

Day 8Trek to Kharka

After having our early morning breakfast, we head towards Ghyamghar The walk will be up and down. Wildering through the forests the trail goes along a river. There may be some ups and downs may be encountered in between. The trek goes through a cedar forest before reaching Trekking up to a ridge we enjoy distant views of Landscape with a spectacular view Finally, we see green grassy plain where we stay tonight

Day 9Trek to Do-Tarap

After breakfast, we continue the trek walking through the river bank in narrow valley and the bushes in the grassy hills seeing some colour full high altitude flower some kinds of birds and wild animals such as Blue Sheep and beautiful brown Hills made the trek so joyful walking up and down the trail leads to a wide valley and the valley became wider and wider till to Do-Tarap

Day 10Acclimatization Day

After breakfast, today you can decide for yourself whether you want to explore village or simply relax the day.

Day 11Trekkking to Jayanta Bhanjyang Highcamp

After breakfast,we continue the trek we walk through Oats fields passing the villages we reach Takyou village and after lunch we continue to our destination through grassy brown hills we can see the animal like a Mouse but it is very big and walk uphill towards the camp.

Day 12Trekking to Kharka via Jayanta Pass

Today the climb would be quite strenuous. From the top of Jayanta Bhanjyang pass, we get stunning views of the large valley parted by a gushing river. Then we descend through a steep trail, meandering along the banks of a river. Traversing through the river we move pat the Yak Kharka, the grazing area.

Day 13Trekking to Saldang

After breakfast,The trail passes through beautiful juniper forests moving down to a rocky canyon. After having our early morning breakfast we initiate our trek from Kharka then heading to Saldang. While traversing through Kharka, we witness the stunning views of the northern part of Tibetan plateau, which is the highest plateau in the world.In this day when we follow the river we have to cross many time so better you wear sleeper on this day up to Lunch places then you can put on your shoes to continue to our destination before saldang we have to Climb uphill about 200m to Saldang.

After having our early morning breakfast you can decide for yourself what you want to do in this day.

Day 15Trek to Nengla phedi

After having our early morning breakfast, we leave Saldang and head towards Nengla Phedi via Namgung Gompa. The trail leads uphill to the pass and fell difficult to walk due to thin air and from the pass we descend to Namgung Gompa,after we follow the old trade route to Nengla phedi.The trail lets you explore some of the most interesting regions of the trek. Not to mention, the scenery will leave you awesome scenic view of nature.

Day 16Trek to Vijer Via Nengla Pass

After having our breakfast we head towards Vijer via Neng- La pass.The trail leads to uphill through dry and muddy path about an hour then we have to climb or ascend about 300m to the pass after the pass we descend downhill and we reach yak herd place and again we continue to our destination to Vijer Villages.

Day 17Trek to Shey Gompa

After breakfast,Today we head towards Shey Gumba. The trail leads flat surface ascending through the river. Further, it leads to small greenery offering scenic views of nature.we have to walk up and down many times and goes to ridge just like a pass and after that again we have to ascend to the another hill where we see the first view of Shey Gumba and descending again about 400m we reach our destination to Shey Gumba.

Day 18 Trek to Kangla phedi Via Kangla pass

After having early morning breakfast, we leave Shey Gumba and head towards Kangla pass. Wildering through the trail we will get to see stunning views of nature. Finally, we reach the Pass and continue to descend more than 1000m through the rocky downhill it is not so easy to walk but any how we have to reach the camp below.

Day 19Trek to Phoksindo Lake

After having our early morning breakfast, we leave behind our camp and head towards Lake Beach. The trail leads through the remote areas, on the unsteady trail suspended on a gangway of wood supported on pegs driven into abysses in the rocks. Further, the path takes us through a lush meadow that opens up into the flood plain of the Phoksundo Khola. Then we finally reach our destination along the trail.

Day 20Rest day

Today we spent our day exploring the Phoksundo Lake. We hike to the village of Ringmo and it’s Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. Also, we will get a chance to explore the culture of the local residents. Donned in cultural attire both men and women wear homespun clothing, dyed in maroon color their cultural attire references Tibetan-style somba aur dhokha (boots with upturned toes) for footwear

Day 21Trek to Chepka

After Breakfast,we continue the trek descending to Aamje HospitalCross to the west bank of the river and abandoned settlement of Raktang and trail crosses herders’ hut and horse pastures over the ridge to Jyalhasa winter settlement of Ringmo village. The trail makes some ups and downs through grasses and ferns to a trail junction to a ridge and a short descend on a rocky path to Chepka. The trail stays near the river, climbing over a small ridge then, crossing to the west side to avoid a steep ridge. Trail continues upstream climbing ups and downs to the campsite to Chepka

Day 22Trek to Juphal

After breakfast the adventure begins with an hour downhill walk through the village below then leading through the terraced fields to the Bheri River. Follow the downstream of Bheri river along the un traffic road to the large suspension bridge. Cross Bheri river, where we start to ascend to Juphal along the terrace field on slope hill to Jhupual.

Day 23Fly to Nepalgunj and to Kathmandu

After breakfast early in the morning according to our flight schedule we fly to Nepal Gunj and connection flight to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

Day 24 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

While driving back to Kathmandu, This trip could be considered one of the best, cherishing moment with lots of views alongside rivers, Forest and Hills/. While driving on the tourist bus to Kathmandu, is interesting to watch. (For a surcharge, a flight is possible). Rest of the day free time.

Day 25Free Day in Kathmandu

We will have the rest day and free day in Kathmandu where you can buy souvenir and gifts from Nepal to your friends and family. you will be carrying lots of memories with trekking and adventure activities in Nepal.

Day 26 Departure

Our representative will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport according to your flight schedule.
