Tour Details

The Tamang ethnic group – originally horse traders who immigrated from Tibet, settled here hundreds of years ago. The region, north of Kathmandu and adjacent to Tibet, is still quite original. Traditional villages, green landscapes, dense forests and the peaks of nearby Langtang make the Tamang Heritage Trail Tour an experience on some very lonely paths.

Combining well with the Langtang region, this tour is a good mix of culture, adventures and the fascination of Himalya with its snow capped mountains.

After the breakfast, we start for the biggest Tamang settlement of the area after breakfast, first for about 2 hours steeply through wooded area up to a wonderful vantage point with views into the Tamang area. The first ice giants, such as Ganesh Himal (7429 m) and the Langtang Lirung (7225 m) can be seen from here. Chorten and Manimauern accompany us during the first day. In Goljung we make a well deserved rest with the first Dal Bhaat (Nepali main course) before we mobilize forces again and tackle the last part of the day. About 2 hours later we reach our first daily destination. Take the rest of your free time and visit the ancient Tamang Monastery and Parvati Kaunda Lake.

Overnight at the lodge (B / L / D) Hiking time approximately: 5 hours

Day 4Trekking to Tatopani (2610m)

Tatopani means hot spring that once existed there. Unfortunately, the last earthquake has let it dry up. Nevertheless, it is still a nice place to rest and enjoy. We start with a descent to Chilime and again the typical symbols of the Buddhist region like Manimauern and Chörten accompany us. Before we go back up, we cross one of many suspension bridges and on the way and meet many waterfalls.

Day 5 Trekking to Naghathali (3165m)

A spiritual place, because here is a popular place to meditate for the local lamas. Not too long we are on the way, because after about 3 hours we reach the place Brimdang, mostly up the road, our new place to sleep for the night. Naghathali has beautiful views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Tibet. There are several options to customize the rest of the day. About 4 hours there and back you need to hike from here to Taruche (3700m) viewpoint. You can look far into Tibet. Of course Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung are also present here.

Overnight at the lodge (B / L / D) Hiking time approximately: 4 hours

Day 6Trekking to Thuman (2335m)

Today it is a bit more comfortable, because after about 3 hours you reach steeply through wooded area down the small Tamang place with a nice little Gumba. Relax the rest of the day in a great atmosphere.

Day 9 Trekking to Langtang (3330m)

Dense rhododendron forests that bloom in spring in so many different colors, traverse before the valley opens and the path runs along pastures and meadows and opens the view far into the valley. Overnight at the lodge (B / L / D) Hiking time approximately: 4 hours

Day 11 Climbing the Tsergo Ri (4948m)

It is a long and not always easy way up to the summit. The last few meters, over large boulders, we fight our way to the summit of Tsergo Ri, meter by meter. Of course the hard way is rewarded as well. With magnificent views of one of the most beautiful natural areas that stretches along the Langtang Himal Range. On the way there is picking in a sheltered place.

Overnight at the Lodge (B / L / D) Hiking time approximately: 7 to 8 hours

Day 12Trekking to Lama Hotel (2440m)

Day 14Trekking to Shin Gumba (3250m)

Over mountain meadows and mystically acting dense forest it goes ahead steeply. The well-deserved lunch break in a clearing with a view to Tibet, makes the further way seem easier to the charming place Shin Gumba with the small monastery and a Yak cheese factory. Be sure to try!

Day 15 Trekking to Goisakunda (4380m)

The march was laborious until Laurebina, our lunch spot. On the way you have views of the Annapurna Range, Ganesh Himal and Manaslu. On a sensational rock path, past one of the sacred lakes, we come to the probably most well-known pilgrim place in the region. Once a year in August, to Janina Purna, hundreds of Hindu Brahman pilgrims arrive and celebrate the holy cleansing at Lake Goisakunda at full moon.

Overnight at the lodge (B / L / D) Hiking time approximately: 8 hours

Day 16Climbs Surya Peak (5145m)

For the sporty, we climb today a 5000’ter. If you do not want to spend a whole day, the glacier lakes make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Early in the morning we march towards the summit with many breaks to relax and take pictures, which will be extremely worthwhile. With good visibility, we get views on the Annapurna chain and the Dhaulagiri. Deep down you look at the holy lakes. What a panorama.

Day 19On discovery in Kathmandu

After quiet days in the mountains, Kathmandu welcomes you with its unique, not always quiet, charm. Explore the city, it’s worth it! Whether the King’s Square (Durbar Squaere), with its many temples and the living goddess Kumari, the largest stupa outside Tibet in Boudha, the populated by many monkeys Swayambunath high above the city and not least one of the holiest Hindu places – the Pashupatinath Temple with the extraordinary public burnings of the dead Hindus – the city lives from the people, their traditions and the many sights.

We are also happy to offer you a guided city tour. A small outline of the tour can be found here ….
