Helambu is a place in Langtang is popular for Tibetan Buddhism. The rich cultural monuments here depict the unique culture of Tamang and Sherpa people. The trek to helambu is one of the admired short trek in Nepal. It is comparatively an easy trek that does not require much of a hard work. The trail takes you on a loop of scenic villages of the Langtang region letting you explore the varied culture and the stunning mountain views. Not to mention, this trek is perfect for those who want to feel the Himalayan trekking in a short period of time.

Helambu Valley Trekking lets you explore the diverse flora and fauna as the trail passes through the Langtang National Park. Dwelling through the valleys and villages, the trek offers the spectacular views of mountain peaks such as Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal and more. The trek begins from Sundarijal  a Himalayan river-fed water reservoir. The trail ascends onto Shivapuri ridge that lets you witness the gorgeous views of Gauri Shanker (7,134m), Langtang Lirung (7,246m) and Ganesh Himal (7,405m).

Further the trek follows the ridge Kutumsang (2,450m), the first permanently inhabited village of this course. The trail leads you through the rhododendron forest to Tharepati ( 3690 m), which is the highest point of this trek. From hereon, the trek traverses through Melamchi Khola and the Melamchi village. Moreover, the gompa set on the to Tarke Ghyang offers excellent views of Dorje Lakpa (6,996m) and Ganja La to the north. We indulge through a surprising amount of old growth forest on the way where a lot of ancient rhododendron trees grace the trail.

Helambu Valley Trekking is undoubtedly the most diversified short trek of Nepal. Comprising of wildlife, vegetation, people and mountains, you will get to explore all in just about a week’s time. You will be amazed to witness the rich vegetations and wildlife in such short span of time. The great Himalayan scenery at the border with Tibet and monasteries make a trek to the region a captivating experience.

Autumn is the best season for Helambu Valley Trek. The weather is warm and the skies are clear. Also, Spring season is best time to visit here.



Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

Our representative will Pick up from Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, and transfer to the hotel.In Hotel we introduce the guide and talk about the trek and arrange the stuff which you need while trekking.

Day 2Free day in Kathmandu

This day you can rest or do Shopping for trekking and if you want to do sightseeing than we can arrange you for the sightseeing in Swayambhunath Buddhist Monastery, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Monastery and Pashupatinath. These all tour destinations are world heritage sites designed by UNESCO world heritage. You can see typical features of different locations. After finishing the tour, you have to prepare for upcoming trekking and we will introduce the guide and do short briefing.

Day 3Fly to Nepalgunj

After breakfast, we take an hour-long flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, located in Western Nepal. Nepalgunj, a town near the Nepal-India border, is also the gateway to Simikot, Humla. The town itself is an interesting Terai town that showcases the diverse culture of Nepal. In Nepalgunj, we visit the local market, mini-zoo and nearby villages.

Day 4 Fly to Juphal and trek to Ankhe

After a pleasant overnight in Nepalgunj, early morning transfer to airport for the 45 minute flight to Juphal over the Himalayan foothills, with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks to the north. On arriving at Juphal our trekking staff receive you. Our first day adventure begins with an hour downhill walk through the village below the airstrip, then leading through the terraced fields to the Bheri River. Follow the upstream of Bheri river along the un-traffic road to Dunai the capital city of Dolpo.

Day 5Trek to Tarakot

After breakfast we continue our trek along the southern bank of the Bheri River heading upstream on an easy trail. Along the way, we pass through several deep gorges, hanging bridges and isolated villages. Our trail also includes a tremendous gorge with pine trees and a path built about seven meters above the river. After walking for a while, we will be greeted by the colorful, terraced field of Tarakot, a small village that stands on a hillock to the south of the Bheri River

Day 6Trek to Laine Odar.

After breakfast,We continue our journey alongside Tsarap Chu river and cross it twice before reaching Sandul Gompa. The gompa lies at a juncture between Barbung Khola and Tsarap Chu river. We continue walking on a trail that takes us through farm terraces and rural villages. After ascending and descending for a while, we finally reach destination Laine Odar.

Day 7Trek to Nawar pani

After breakfast,We continue our journey through ascending on a steep trail and walk along switchback above the Tarap River. The walk is quite exciting as the valley becomes a narrow gorge that in some places you can jump from one side to another. Several vigorous climbs and descents will take us to the banks of the Chyugur Khola, from where we reach Nawarpani.

Day 8Trek to Dho-Tarap

After breakfast,We continue our journey begins by gradually ascending to Kamattarka at the confluence of the Tarap Chu and Lang Khola. We cross a narrow gorge and leave the tree line behind us and welcome by wild rose and juniper bushes, typical of the dry inner Himalayan valleys. After walking for several more hours, we reach the village of Dho Tarap which is surrounded by an irregular stone wall. In this Valley both Bon Po and Chaiba religious sects reside together. Tarap is also inhabited by a few Tibetans and mostly Magars who have lived here for many generations.

Day 9 Rest day or Acclimatization day.

After a long day walking continuously for about a week so today is rest or acclimatization day and allow some rest to refresh our body. We can spend the day visiting nearby monasteries, we also get a chance to get acquainted with the local culture. The Dolpo people wear homespun clothing that is sometimes dyed a maroon color and they favor Tibetan style somba aur dhokha (boots with upturned toes) for footwear. Both men and women often wear religious amulets and strings of coral, amber and turquoise. The people of the region are both Bon Po and Nyingmapa (Buddhist sects).

Day 10Trek to Numala Base

After breakfast,We continue our journey towards the upper Tarap valley enjoying views of lushty grasslands on both sides of the river which is unique to this part of the inner Dolpo. We walk alongside Tsarap Chu river and take pleasure in the amazing views of the vast Tarap valley with its wide plains and high mountains. A few hours’ good walk takes us to the village of Tokyu which houses a Buddhist monastery of the Chiba sect. After exploring the monastery, we continue walking up the valley on a rough trail before reaching the Numa La Base Camp.

Day 11Trek to Pelung tang via Numala pass

After breakfast,we continue our journey with a going to be the toughest and one of the longest days of our trek. After breakfast, we begin ascending to cross the Numa La pass on a steep trail all the way up the top ridge of the pass. From the ridge we get incredible views of the barren mountains of Dolpo up to Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). After getting to the top of Numa La, we descend to camp at Pelung Tang.

Day 12Trek to Dajok Tang or Yak kharka via Bagala Pass

After breakfast, we continue our journey by ascending on a steep trails all the way up to the top of Baga La pass. From here, we get fantastic views of the dry landscape and the distant snow-capped mountains, including Mt. Kanjirowa. We spend some time at the top of the pass taking pictures and generally enjoying the mesmerizing views. Next, we descend to Dajok Tang

Day 13 Trek to Phokshondu or Ringmo

After breakfast,We continue our journeys most on trails alongside beautiful pine forests and alpine vegetation. After trekking for a short while on an easy trail with only gradual highs and lows, we reach Ringmo Village. The village is a traditional Tibetan village of the Dolpo region.

Day 14Rest day

After breakfast,we explore the great Phoksundo Lake and camp at its shores. We see yak caravans moving in and out of Ringmo mostly towards Tibetan borders on remote mountain trails. The scene is even depicted in a Hollywood movie ‘Caravan’ shot mostly in this location. On our way to the lake, we also tour a nearby monastery. Upon reaching the Phoksundo Lake, we can enjoy a relaxing walk on the serene lake’s shores and even take a bath on the lake if you could.

Day 15Trek to Chepka or Shyanta

After breakfastWe continue our journey begins by downhill to Chepka. From Chepka the trail follows a massive overhanging rock. During our trek, we find many important medicinal minerals which are believed to cure almost anything in this area. The route then passes through villages, before climbing to Shyanta.

Day 16 Trek to Juphal

After breakfast,We continue our journey as usual towards Jhupal via Sulighat on a trail surrounded by trees. From atop a ridge, we get the most spectacular views of the mountain above us and Jhupal Village below. Utmost caution is required while trekking along this trail. After reaching Jhupal, we can spend our afternoon exploring the busy market town or simply taking a rest

Day 17Fly to Nepalgunj and fly to Kathmandu

After breakfast,Early in the Morning We take the earliest flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we return to Kathmandu on the connection flight. Upon our arrival in Kathmandu, we will be transferred to our hotel. There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey.

Day 18Fly to Nepalgunj and fly to Kathmandu

After breakfast,Early in the Morning We take the earliest flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we return to Kathmandu on the connection flight. Upon our arrival in Kathmandu, we will be transferred to our hotel. There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey.

Day 20Free day in Kathmandu

We will have the rest day and free day in Kathmandu where you can buy souvenir and gifts from Nepal to your friends and family. you will be carrying lots of memories with trekking and adventure activities in Nepal.

Our representative will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport according to your flight schedule.
